Privacy Policy
Silo is built so that your photos never leave your device. We do not collect, transmit, see, or store any of your data on our servers — because no server of ours ever touches your photos.
The short version
Silo is a private, on-device photo vault. Every photo you capture or store in Silo is saved only in Silo's private storage area on your iPhone. Your photos, folders, tags, and notes stay on your device. We have no ability to access them, and they are never uploaded anywhere by the app.
Information we collect
None. Silo does not collect personal information. Specifically:
- Silo has no user accounts, logins, or registration. We never ask for your name, email, or any identifier.
- Silo contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party software development kits that gather usage data.
- Silo contains no code that sends your photos, or any data derived from them, off your device.
How your photos are stored
Photos you take or import are written to Silo's sandboxed storage on your device. This area is private to the app: other apps cannot read it, and the photos do not appear in the system Photos library or iCloud Photos. Your photos are additionally protected within the app behind Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
Camera access
Silo asks permission to use your camera for one purpose only: to let you capture photos directly into the app. Captured photos are saved straight into Silo's private storage and are not added to your camera roll. Silo does not use the camera at any other time.
Face ID and authentication
Silo uses Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode solely to lock and unlock the app on your device. This authentication is handled entirely by iOS; Silo never receives, stores, or transmits your biometric data. Biometric information never leaves your device and is never seen by us.
Sharing and export
Silo can export your photos only when you explicitly choose to — for example, by using the share or export feature to send a copy to another app, save it to your Photos library, or create a backup archive. These actions happen entirely on your device and at your direction. Silo never shares your photos automatically.
Your responsibility for backups
Because your photos are stored only on your device and are never uploaded to us or to any cloud by the app, deleting Silo or losing your device will permanently remove the photos held inside it. We strongly recommend using Silo's export feature to keep your own backups of anything important.
Children's privacy
Silo does not collect any information from anyone, including children. The app contains no data collection of any kind.
Changes to this policy
If Silo's functionality changes in a way that affects privacy in a future version, we will update this policy and revise the date above. Material changes will be reflected here before the relevant version is released.
Support
Need help? Email silo-workphotos@proton.me and we'll get back to you. Please include your device model and iOS version so we can help faster.
Where are my photos stored?
Inside Silo's private storage on your device only. They do not appear in your camera roll or iCloud Photos, and they are not uploaded anywhere.
Can you recover my photos if I delete the app or lose my phone?
No. Because your photos live only on your device and are never sent to us, we have no copy and cannot recover them. Please use the export feature to keep your own backups of anything important.
How do I back up my photos?
Open a folder, tap the share or export option, and choose how to export. You can save the exported copies to the Files app, AirDrop them to a computer, or store them wherever you keep backups.
How do I unlock the app if Face ID fails?
Silo falls back to your device passcode whenever Face ID or Touch ID does not succeed, so as long as your device has a passcode set, you can always get in.
Do the photos appear in my normal Photos app?
No. Photos captured in Silo are saved only within Silo and kept separate from your device's photo library, unless you deliberately export one and save it to Photos yourself.
Is Silo a subscription?
No. Silo is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription, no account, and nothing to renew.
Does Silo work without an internet connection?
Yes. Silo is fully on-device and does not require a network connection to capture, store, organize, or view your photos.
